What is the Sports Premium?
The PE and Sport Premium is a government initiative that provides additional funding to primary schools to improve the quality of physical education (PE), physical activity, and sport. The aim is to ensure that all children develop healthy lifestyles and a lifelong love of physical activity. Schools are expected to use this funding to make sustainable improvements to their PE provision, including increasing participation, improving teaching quality, and offering a broader range of activities.
How Much Funding Do We Receive?
Hardwick Green Primary Academy received £19,290 in Primary PE and Sport Premium funding for the 2025-26 academic year. The school spent the full allocation to improve opportunities for physical education, sport and physical activity for all pupils
How We Use the Funding
Our PE and Sport Premium funding was used to:
- Develop staff expertise through professional development and training.
- Increase participation in extra-curricular sport and physical activity.
- Purchase equipment and resources to improve PE provision.
- Provide opportunities for pupils to participate in inter-school competitions.
- Enhance swimming provision and water safety outcomes.
- Improve participation and engagement for disadvantaged pupils, girls and pupils with SEND.
These clubs are open to all pupils and help promote physical activity beyond the school day.
Key Priorities and Impact
High-quality PE teaching
We invested in professional development for staff to strengthen the quality of PE provision across the school. This has helped improve staff confidence, subject knowledge and the consistency of PE teaching.
Increased participation in extra-curricular sport
Funding was used to provide a broader range of specialist clubs, including:
- Street Dance
- Badminton
- Basket Ball
- Football
- Dodgeball
- Racket Skill
- Cricket
- Golf
These opportunities increased pupil participation and enabled more children to engage in activities beyond the traditional sports offer.
Inclusion
Funding was targeted to support:
- Pupils with SEND
- Disadvantaged pupils
This helped ensure that all pupils were able to access and benefit from sporting opportunities regardless of background or need.
Swimming and Water Safety Outcomes 2025-26

A significant proportion of funding was invested in additional swimming provision. This investment supported pupils to develop confidence, competence and safety in and around water.
The school invested £4,500 in additional swimming provision and judged the impact on swimming attainment to be positive.
